Here we are, late August, and there's already a hint of autumn in the air that greets you as you step outside each morning. The warmth of summer lingers, but there's a whisper of something different, something crisp and invigorating that signals the approaching change of season. I know, I know—the end of summer is not something we want to confront just yet, but it's time to start thinking about those enchanting autumn sessions.
In the greater Edmonton area, the prime colors usually make their grand entrance around mid-September, painting the landscape in a breathtaking tapestry of reds, golds, and oranges. This glorious display often stretches through until Thanksgiving weekend, offering a spectacular show of nature’s artistry. However, Alberta’s weather can be as unpredictable as it is beautiful. Sometimes, a sudden gust of wind can sweep those vibrant hues away sooner than we'd like. And yet, there are those fortunate years when the colors linger, gracing us with their beauty into mid and late October.
Mother Nature in Alberta is known for her capricious ways—one moment she’s draping the landscape in autumn’s rich palette, and the next, she’s whisking it away with a brisk breeze. So while we revel in the late summer warmth, it’s also time to prepare for the splendid seasonal shift. The colors are coming, and whether they arrive with a flourish or a fleeting whisper, they promise a visual feast that’s worth every moment of anticipation. Get ready to embrace the fall magic!
